Circuit classes at ABS House

After the success of the Tuesday lunchtime boxing classes at ABS House in Belconnen, I have now been approached to conduct a circuit style class one other lunchtime.

I have decided on Thursday lunchtimes and these classes will commence on Thursday 26 August 2010. As for the boxing, they will run for 45 minutes from 12.15-1.00pm. Initially it will be a 5 week program, with the cost being $50 if paying upfront for all 5 sessions or $12 if attending on a casual basis.

Circuit classes are a great way to build both your strength and cardio fitness using both bodyweight and equipment based exercises.

If you work either in the ABS or in the Belconnen area and would like to attend these classes, please contact Nicola at nicola@lifestylefitnesstraining.com.au or on 0449 877 883.

2010 Canberra Times Fun Run

The annual Canberra Times Fun Run is coming up on September 12 2010. There are options of either a 10km run or a 5km walk. Both distances are open to male and female, young and old (children have to be supervised). This run is in support of the National Heart Foundation.

The only team events for this run are teams of 3 competing for best times. Given this, I won’t officially be entering a Lifestyle Fitness Training team, however I encourage as many of you as possible to enter and we will all try to meet up beforehand and then catch up again after the race.

If you would like more details about the fun run just go to http://www.canberratimesfunrun.com.au/.

Let me know if you are going to enter so that I can keep track of who is going to be there. And feel free to pass this on to family and friends.

Boxing classes at ABS House

I have been lucky enough to secure the contract to run Tuesday lunchtime boxing classes in a room at ABS House in Belconnen. This building houses the Australian Bureau of Statistics, however the boxing classes are open to both ABS and other Commonwealth department employees.

The boxing classes run for 45 minutes and there are two sessions which are held back to back as demand as been high. As the room is not huge, I do have to limit each class to 12 participants. The sessions are held at 12.15 – 1.00pm and 1.05 – 1.50pm.

If you work either at ABS House or in the Belconnen area and would like to join one of these classes, then contact me for more details. The classes run during school terms and are $100 per term or $12 if only attending on a casual basis.

Great winter promotion on now!!!

Are you like many of us and finding it hard to get the motivation to exercise during the cold Canberra winter days? This is the time that you don’t want to let your fitness regime slide. Even if you keep up small amounts of exercise most days, it will make you feel more energised and make it so much easier when the warmer months approach again and you feel like getting out and doing more. Stop exercise all together and the job to get moving again is so much tougher.

To help you make the decision to keep moving I am offering a winter promotion to all my current and new clients. All clients signing up and paying upfront by 16 July 2010 for a 10 session program over 5 weeks will get their first two sessions for free. That is a 20% saving off the usual cost of this program.

This offer is available for the next group sessions commencing in the week of 19 July 2010. Currently these group sessions are available on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6.30pm. However, if you have a group of people that are interested in a session on another night or time just let me know.

Results of the Mothers Day Classic Fun Run

Sunday 9 May 2010 was the big day of the Mothers Day Classic Fun Run. And what a glorious day it was. The sun was shining and not a breath of wind. We couldn’t have asked for a better one. The Lifestyle Fitness Training team was raring to go. We had a team of 31 people, making us the 10th largest team in the ACT out of over 200 teams. What an outstanding effort for our first time.

4 of us arrived early to take part in the 10km run. We were all feeling a little nervous but keen to get going. Before we knew it we were off. The first couple of kms proved slow with such a large crowd to work your way through, especially over Kings Avenue Bridge. Once we found our spot then it was a matter of pacing ourselves for the next 8kms to come. I personally found the first 5km the hardest, but once we headed through the start/finish line for the first lap I felt spurred on by the large cheering crowd and my family high fiving me! The next lap was the enjoyable one and much faster than the first. Although I must say that it was quite an emotional run at times, seeing all the tributes worn on the back of entrants for loved ones they had lost to breast cancer. Even more reason to put a bit more effort in and run your hardest. And before we knew it there was the finish line and the chance to put one last sprint in. What a great achievement by all of the 10km runners.

Next to go were our 5km runners who all did a fantastic job of powering through and doing some personal best times. Well done girls! 10km for you all next year. Last but not least were our 5km walkers, which included family and friends, young and old. And didn’t they all have a great time, many of them sneaking in a bit of running along the way. I ran back to meet my Mum and son at the 4km mark and run with my son over the finish line. What a proud moment for a mum!

I can’t believe what a high we were all on after the run/walk. It was such a fabulous event and a lovely way to spend Mothers Day. We are already talking about bigger and better things for the team next year. Number 1 in the ACT for Lifestyle Fitness Training next year.

Thank you to everyone who participated and made this such a fun day for all. You should all give yourselves a big pat on the back.

Update on group sessions

Well it’s been a long time between blogs. I have been madly getting the next group sessions up and running. They all had their first sessions last week and those that did some fitness testing all did really well. Lets look forward to some great results in the final fitness tests in 4 weeks time.

We are into week 2 of the 5 week group programs. If there is anyone who would like to come and have a go you are still more than welcome to come and try a session for free. Simply contact me at nicola@lifestylefitnesstraining.com.au or on 0449 877 883. The weather is still warm enough to enjoy the sessions outdoors. These will move indoors once it becomes too cold.

Finally, good luck to all those entered in the Lifestyle Fitness Training Team for this Sunday’s Mothers Day Classic Fun Run. It has been a fantastic turnout and looks like we will have over 30 people in the team after registrations close at midday on 5 May. Let me know if you would like to join the team and I will send you the details.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums out there.

Mother’s Day Classic Fun Run/Walk

The Mother’s Day Classic Fun Run/Walk is coming up on 9 May. This is a fantastic Australia wide fund raising event for breast cancer research and is open to females, males, children, the young and the old, the fit and the unfit. There are options of a 5km walk, a 5km run and a 10km run. And it is just a nice way to celebrate Mothers Day.

I have registered a Lifestyle Fitness Training team. After the success of our last event where there were 16 team participants (runners and walkers) for the Women and Girls fun run, it would be great to make the team even bigger this time.

So if you would like to join the team (you don’t have to run, there will be plenty of walkers and you don’t have to be a current client of mine), simply go to the online registration at http://mothersdayclassic.com.au/ and when you are putting in your details enter “Lifestyle Fitness Training” as your team. You are also more than welcome to bring along friends and relatives as part of our team. Just let me know via email if you have registered and who else you are bringing with you. Early bird registration fees are up until 5.00pm on 23 April. Final registration closes on Friday 30 April for mailed entries and 12.00pm 5 May for online entries.

I have started off the team with myself and my 11yr old son, and will also be bringing along my 68yr old mum and my sister. Come and join us for a morning outdoors and enjoy all the benefits of exercise at the same time.

Winner of free PT session

The draw for the free PT session for those who paid their deposit for the next group programs by 11 April was undertaken today.

Congratulations to Bec from the Tues/Thurs night group who was the winner. I’m very happy for her as she is someone who is really enjoying her exercise now and is feeling the benefits of being fitter. This PT session will help her to push that little bit further.

I am still taking bookings for the upcoming group programs commencing at the end of April. Some of the sessions are very full so get in now while there are still places.

Fun run results

Well today was the day of the Women and Girls 5km fun run/walk. There were 16 participants in the Lifestyle Fitness Training team. It was a nice and sunny, but windy, morning and everyone did well to get there early on a Sunday. Everyone was excited in anticipation of the first running event for many of the participants in the team.

A mass warm-up was conducted for the 1000 entrants in the event and we all had a bit of a giggle at the 1980’s style aerobics session – good fun!! And then it was time. The starter yelled “Go” and we were off, some running and some walking. Unfortunately one of our girls stepped over the start line and into a hole twisting her ankle. It was a quick rush to first aid for some spray on ice and then she was off and sprinting, working her way past the walkers to catch up to all the runners – massive effort by her to still do an excellent time after all the early drama.

The run to the Carillion wasn’t too bad. We turned there and headed back and that is when the fun began. We started running straight into a strong headwind. Not fun at all. A small slope challenged us for the last 100m and then there was the finish line. A sprint to the end and it was all over. The whole team cheered each other over the line. A fantastic effort by all team members, with everyone feeling pretty good about themselves. As the trainer, I was certainly very proud of each and everyone of them.

So the next challenge – the Mother’s Day Classic. Only 4 weeks away and the option of either 5 or 10 km. Time to start training again!!

New studio taking shape

For many of you Easter would have meant lots of chocolate and maybe a trip down the coast like many other Canberrans. For me it was full of clearing of the garage, painting and assembling storage units. But wow, doesn’t the garage look good now and it really is starting to look like a gym studio. The wonderful guys at Gymquip will be delivering the flooring and other equipment on Monday. After that just a few finishing touches and the studio will be up and running.

This studio will be a great addition to my business, particularly for personal training clients and for days when the weather is so bad that we are unable to train outdoors. Along with a nice big grassy area next to our house, you can be assured that you will get both a great strength and cardio workout.
